Tisunge! Weaving Project: Call for assistance

10-1-2012

The traditional weavers around Tisunge! are doing a great job in making naturally dyed rugs, placemats, bags, etc. The quality has definitely improved over the years. These times of economic hardship, and particularly the scarcity of fuel in the country, has however greatly affected tourism in the Lower Shire. Sales have thus gone down.

In order to counteract this development, we are looking for outside market opportunities. We welcome any suggestions from the public. Also the development of new products may assist in keeping up the momentum.  The weaving has proven to be such an important instrument for local poverty alleviation, heritage awareness, self-pride and even preservation of Lengwe National Park.
